Thank You Knoppix!
So,
I FINALLY got my computer all back up and running again!
So basically my processor died, and so I had to get a new one. Well, I decided to go with AMD this time, and so I had to get a new motherboard, and as it ended up, I had to pretty much reformat my main drive before I could get Windows to function correctly. Luckily, I had a spare 40 gb hard-drive that I installed XP on as well so that I could access all of my other files before I did the format. So, I got all of that, and then I went to hook up my other 120 gb hard-drive with all my pictures, application install files, music, docs, html, etc. and the partition tables were corrupted. So after much searching (and a stubborn desire not to dish out another $100 on a file recovery software package) I found Knoppix, a bootable linux system running directly from one cd (no hard-drive install!). Booting into this system gave me the ability to see all my drives including the 120 gb, except this was the only one I could not access the files off of. So, after days of searching and scouring, I found a program (Testdrive) that you run from the root console. After finding instructions on how to run the program, I figured out how to realign the partition table correctly, and wal-lah! My files were accessible! Then I restarted in XP, and wal-lah! My files were accessible in there as well.
Yes, Knoppix has saved my life, and it could save yours to. Download your copy today.
